Apostille Services

What Is an Apostille and Why Do You Need One?

Apostilles are commonly required for:

  • International business transactions
  • Foreign adoptions
  • Dual citizenship applications
  • International marriages
  • Visas
  • Work permits
  • Educational document verification
  • Power of attorney for overseas matters

If the receiving country is not part of the Hague Apostille Convention, documents will need a Federal Authentication and Embassy Legalization instead.

An Apostille is a form of authentication issued to documents for use in foreign countries that are part of the Hague Apostille Convention. It certifies the authenticity of the document’s signature, the capacity in which the person signing the document acted, and, if applicable, the authenticity of any stamps or seals attached to the document.

Apostilles are issued by the Secretary of State in the document’s state of origin or by the U.S. Department of State for federal documents. Precision Signing Agency facilitates this process by handling the authentication on your behalf, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

Who Can Perform an Apostille?

The process for obtaining an Apostille or Authentication varies depending on whether the document is issued at the state level or the federal level.

How the Apostille Process Works?

For documents originating from a specific U.S. state (e.g., birth certificates, marriage certificates, notarized legal documents):

  1. Document Review & Notarization (if required) – Ensure the document is notarized by a commissioned notary public if required. If not notarized, we offer notarization services as part of our package.
  2. Submission to the Secretary of State – The document is sent to the appropriate state office for authentication. Processing times vary by state.
  3. Apostille Issuance – Once processed, the Apostille is affixed to the document.
  4. Return Shipping – The finalized document is securely returned to you via tracked shipping.

State-Level Apostille (Issued by the Secretary of State)

For documents issued at the federal level (e.g., FBI background checks, U.S. Passports, Naturalization Certificates, Federal Court Documents):

  1. Document Review & Notarization (if required) – We verify whether the document needs notarization before submission.
  2. Submission to the U.S. Department of State – The document is sent to the Office of Authentications in Washington, D.C., for processing.
  3. Authentication/Apostille Issuance – The U.S. Department of State verifies and issues the Apostille or Authentication Certificate.
  4. Return Shipping – The authenticated document is securely shipped back to you.

For non-Hague Convention countries, an Embassy Legalization may be required after the authentication process.
